What Am I Saying?

I’m considering changing my subtitle. I know what No One is saying, “No one reads this blog so why worry about?” Well No One needs to consider the possibility that one day some people might actually read it. So there.

The current subtitle:

Inspiring Social Change
Achieving Global Sustainability
Heightening Awareness
Promoting Action

describes in pretty good detail what the site is about but it lacks the zing I’m looking for. “Inspiring Social Change” alone is pretty okay but perhaps a little too aloof, especially when I’m a much bigger promoter of common sense than theory. What about “Promoting Common Sense”? Not too bad . . . but not great either. The phrase needs to connect to the reader and indicate what the site can do for him or her. A good example is stevepavlina.com. His subtitle is, “Personal Development for Smart People”. I like that. Most people consider themselves smart, even if they’re not. They also believe that being smart puts them in a respected minority, which gives them a feeling of superiority. And most people who consider themselves smart want to become smarter and more capable so they can accomplish their goals, either to demonstrate their intelligence or because they truly believe in something. Amazing truly . . . getting the masses to believe they’re in the minority. Mass marketing through isolation. So I’m a little jealous. Anywho . . .

“Common Sense for Social Protagonists” is really what I’m offering but the second half of the phrase sounds a bit academic. “Common Sense for the Common Person” has the opposite effect of Pavlina’s subtitle and is a bit to socialist. What about “Common Sense for the Socially Minded”? It’s okay, but still too vague, no?

Hmmmm. “Common Sense for Caring People”? Too touchy feely . . . “Medicine for the Mind”, “Social Change through Common Sense” . . . wait. That’s pretty good. Or “Common Sense for Social Change”, which is also workable. Is there some way to connect that to the reader? I’m going back to “Common Sense for Social Protagonists”. It might exclude people who think they’re smart but actually aren’t but I’m not trying to drive up traffic as much as actually reach people in the position to affect change.

What am I really offering? Tools, knowledge, analysis, advice, information . . . “One Stop Shop for Social Protagonists”. “The Social Protagonist’s Toolbox”? “Resources for Social Protagonists”, “Capital for Social Change”, “Resources for Social Change”. I was hoping something would click by now.

Should I politicize the subtitle? “Social Change for Progressive People” - this might segregate liberals and conservatives but is there really an audience on the right? I mean seriously . . . “Progressive Ideas for Social Change”, “Progressive Ideas for Progressive People”, “Progressive Insurance for . . . .”, “Social Change for the Socially Conscious” . . . I’m just rambling now.

I’m stumped, though I don’t think I’ll ever love any one idea. The key is to make a decision and stick with it. I wish there was a function on these blogging tools that locked you out of making changes of certain sorts, for instance, with colors or design. Fiddling with settings is a great way to not write, and that doesn’t help anyone.
