Pangea - When we opened our doors in 1995, we were the very first company to offer a comprehensive selection of high-quality, completely cruelty-free vegan (non-animal-derived) products. We began with a very small storefront and just two employees in Bethesda, Maryland, and about a year later we put together our first mail-order catalog. Since then we’ve grown steadily, but we remain true to our goal: to make it easier for people to follow a vegan lifestyle by offering the widest variety of quality vegan products all in one place. We’re the one-stop vegan shop!
Vegetarian Shoes - Most of our shoes are made-to-order for us, exclusively to our specification in European and English factories, including the oldest co-op in the country, established in 1881! Vegetarian Shoes is still a small business. We still operate out of our Gardner Street Shop and nearby office. We now send shoes all over the world and a growing number of stores carry a selected range.

Carfree - The industrialized nations made a terrible mistake when they turned to the automobile as an instrument of improved urban mobility. The car brought with it major unanticipated consequences for urban life and has become a serious cause of environmental, social, and aesthetic problems in cities . . . Carfree cities probably must become the norm by the end of the 21st Century, due to energy constraints. We should begin now to prepare for the change, which is an opportunity to build urban environments superior to any ever known.
Urban Review St. Louis - This site is an opportunity for me to share my thoughts on the St. Louis Region from an urban perspective. For the most part I focus on negative aspects - those areas where I believe we could & should do better with our resources. Don’t get me wrong - St. Louis is a great place with wonderful urban neighborhoods and incredible architecture. Our suburbs, like most suburbs, are depressing.
