Q&A: Climate leaders with answers

Sami Awa is the Business Development Manager at BlueEV which offers electric mobility solutions in Egypt

Q. What can Africa learn from the outside world in electric mobility? A: Companies should offer solutions that fit the current market, design of the roads and a country’s terrain. Two-wheeler and three-wheeler should incorporate technologies such as battery swapping.

Q. How can we promote access to sustainable transport? A: We should research the best locations to install public chargers so that they can be available for every EV user, and the distance between chargers should be a priority.

Q. Which opportunities remain untapped? A: We are lagging in EVs because we are reliant on foreign patented software, which limits what we can do locally. We should be able to manufacture chargers on the continent or at least do more local assembly and bring down the cost.
